Welcome to Down’s Syndrome North East.
Founded in 2002, Down’s Syndrome North East (DSNE) has been a beacon of support and advocacy for individuals with Down’s syndrome and their families throughout the North East of England. Our charity was established by a group of passionate parents and professionals who recognised the need for a dedicated organisation to provide resources, create awareness, and foster an inclusive community for people with Down’s syndrome.
Our Trustees
Our board of trustees is a dedicated team of individuals from various backgrounds, each bringing their unique expertise and personal commitment to our cause. They guide our strategic direction and ensure we remain true to our mission. Meet our trustees:

Our Mission
Our mission is to empower individuals with Down’s syndrome to lead fulfilling lives by providing resources, advocacy, and support while fostering a community of understanding and inclusion.
What We Do
Welcoming a new baby with Down’s syndrome can be overwhelming. Our New Baby Boxes are thoughtfully curated to offer support, resources, and a warm welcome to new parents, helping them navigate the initial stages with confidence and love.
We provide a range of information for new parents as well as groups, activities and Makaton Training. Our aim is to offer guidance, reassurance, and a sense of community from the very beginning
Join us in the Great North Run! Each year, we offer entries for this iconic event, allowing participants to raise funds and awareness for DSNE while achieving personal fitness goals. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a first-timer, you’ll find a supportive team cheering you on.
‘Look At Me’ Exhibition and Book
Our “Look At Me” exhibition and book showcase the incredible talents and stories of individuals with Down’s syndrome. Through powerful imagery and narratives, we challenge stereotypes and highlight the diversity and achievements within our community.
From fun family outings to educational workshops and fundraising galas, our events calendar is packed with opportunities to get involved, learn, and connect. Check our website regularly to stay updated on upcoming events.
Join the DSNE family by becoming a member! Membership offers numerous benefits, including access to exclusive resources, event discounts, and a voice in our community initiatives. Your membership supports our ongoing efforts to make a positive impact.
